Electric

Since 1911, ECU has taken great pride in providing a reliable source of electricity to the residents of Easley. With continued safety and education programs, a right of way maintenance and tree trimming program, ECU strives to offer the best and safest service to its community. In the event of a major storm or widespread outage, we can call upon other member cities of the South Carolina Association of Municipal Power Systems (SCAMPS) for assistance through a mutual aid agreement.

Electric System
  • Operated by ECU since 1911
  • 5 delivery points serving 18 distribution feeder circuits of 7,200/12,470 volts servicing 34.7 sq miles.
  • Service area primarily within city limits of Easley but also serves community of Dacusville
Supply
  • ECU is a member of PMPA
    • PMPA serves as ECU’s sole power supply provider until retirement of PMPA debt (presently, 2035)
    • PMPA owns 25% share of Catawba Nuclear Unit #2
      • During FY 2006, Catawba constituted approx. 73% of System’s PMPA power costs
      • Where PMPA’s peak demand exceeds capacity of Catawba (276.6 MW), Duke Power is contractually obligated to provide necessary supplemental power
  • System also purchases power from Southeastern Power Administration ("SEPA")
  • Peak shaving generation facility of 6.4 MW was constructed in 1993
    • Reduces supplemental power purchases from Duke with cost savings passed through PMPA to System
Customer Base
  • Approximately 13,095 customers
    • 87 % of customers are residential
    • 78% of customers reside within the city limits
    • Sales for fiscal year 2007 of 286 million kWh
    • Revenues for fiscal year 2007 of $26.2 million
  • Average bill for an inside city resident based on 1000 kWh is $99.19
