Easley Combined Utilities (ECU) is proud to share that Watershed Manager Melanie Ruhlman is this year’s Upstate Forever “Clean Water Champion.” Ruhlman received the award at the 2025 ForeverGreen Annual Awards Luncheon on April 22. Hosted by Upstate Forever, ForeverGreen is an event dedicated to recognizing individuals who are dedicated to land conservation, water resource protection, and public service across upstate South Carolina.

Ruhlman manages the Upper Saluda Watershed above Saluda Lake, the body of water that provides raw water to residents of the City of Easley, South Carolina. Through programs designed to reduce soil runoff, watershed management helps reduce sediment and ultimately improves water quality.

“I can only echo the sentiments expressed by others during the awards ceremony. Melanie continues to be a tremendous asset to our organization and our community – much like the water she manages, she’s a vital resource. She brings innovative solutions to the forefront of our conservation efforts and even more than generating ideas, she generates action. Melanie works tirelessly to guarantee the health of the watershed and the quality of water we’re able to deliver. But then again, I don’t think she calls it work. It’s her passion,” said Andy Sevic, General Manager of Easley Combined Utilities.
