Easley Combined Utilities (ECU) announces the highest possible ratings in their respective reward categories for the following systems and departments: financial reporting, cybersecurity, and wastewater facilities.
“When customers think of us, they usually think about the direct services they receive on a day-to-day basis: electric, water, and sewer. However, the behind-the-scenes activities of our departments can often go unrecognized. These teams are held to the same level of excellence and reliability that is expected of our service lines. Our goal is to be the best utility provider possible – across the entire organization. We’re excited to see their efforts recognized and did not want to miss the opportunity to celebrate these achievements,” said Andy Sevic, General Manager for ECU.
Excellence in Financial Reporting
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Easley Combined Utilities for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025. The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment.
Cyber Hygiene Score
The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) aims to help businesses and governments by providing a clear, transparent, and independent assessment of their cybersecurity management. By leveraging data from a wide variety of sources, the CISA comprehensively assesses a company’s cybersecurity strength. Risks are evaluated across seven critical areas, from software updates to hosting, with key factors including application security, continuous monitoring, and patching and misconfigurations. ECU has earned an “A” grade for excellence in cyber hygiene, a rare achievement with only 2 out of 500 organizations receiving this recognition.
Wastewater Facility Excellence
Since 2007, the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has bestowed the “Facility Excellence Award” to honor personnel who are striving to protect the environment while meeting or exceeding compliance expectations. The award also recognizes wastewater treatment and collection systems for superior operational performance, environmental protection, and exceeding customer expectations. ECU has been awarded this prestigious award multiple times since its inception. Most recently, all three of the ECU wastewater treatment facilities (Middle Branch, Georges Creek, and Golden Creek) received individual honors.
